Nike social media consultation (assessment and recommendation)

Nike is an American multinational corporation that promotes and designs athletic tapparel, equipment and footwear. Nike is a major sponsor for many professional athletic teams such as the U.S. National Soccer Team as well as many others. Nike is in every social media website there is, and mostly everybody has or has owned something that is from Nike. Nike promotes their product by putting professional athletes in their advertisements, this helps influence consumers that look up to these people buy the product since it gets them one step closer to being like them. This company appeals to people by saying that they will be able to perform better if you buy some Nike cleats or running shoes. All these ads come out in Youtube, Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook and on Instagram since they have their own page to show their new product to everybody. This helps promote their product since there millions of users that use these social media websites.

Assessment and Recommendation - On the large scale Nike is on every social media network even if they don’t want to be publicised. Nike has taken over the shoe industry influencing males, females, adults, teens, and everything in between. By these influences, also because the social media is available to everyone, nobody is going to stop talking about Nike shoes. Either bad or good publicity both will only do good for Nike because just by talking about them the news is being spread. Based on our sources we conclude that twitter, instagram, and Youtube to be best suited to commercialize their products. Twitter is the best way to inform everyone one of their new products is out. The fast consistent rate at which people retweet and share something new is something to not look past. With Nike’s pregrown popularity there’s no way  Nike isn’t using Twitter. The second Nike tweets about a new product the word would spread like wild fire reaching everyone who has a phone and in this case, everyone. Nike, being a company based on style and practicality, can use instagram as a showcase to the world. Instagrams picture base app allows consumers to actually view the product even before the release date, hyping up the product over time until its due. The use of Youtube as Nikes third best selling strategy is very unorthodox because it can be the most expensive. The cost of putting a commercial/ad on Youtube can cost up to 300,000 dollars a day (on the home page). Although it may cost Nike to use Youtube as a marketing scheme they can also use it without actually using it. Fans of athletes that nike sponsor are constantly uploading videos of their gameplay and because nike sponsors them they’re  constantly wearing their logo.

In the social media “world” there are five main outlets that most companies use including Nike. Following list will include how and examples of nike using these outlets to maximise their sales, loyalty etc.
Facebook- Being the biggest social media outlet in the world and having a range from all ages nike utilizes this outlet to do almost everything from news updates, ads and testimonials. Facebook allowing so many comments and likes etc, Nike is able to see feed back from everyone around the world allowing them to tweak and learn from mistakes easier.
Twitter- Twitter is the more younger and easier to spread social media. Making news and releases so “hyped” and up to date news. Allowing small messages nike must make messages short and straight forward. With Pictures and messages spreading quick they are allowed to use this platform from everything from giveaways, competitions, and releases.
For example the release of the Nike Air Yeezy 2 “Red Octobers” that released out of no where only users following Nike’s twitter account got the notification of the flash release.  shoes that was hyped up for over a year with leaked pictures of the shoes on twitter. The news of the release spread like quick fire with shoe magazines and online sources following it sell out in mere seconds and minutes. A prime example of how quickly things on twitter can spread and Nike utilizing it to its potential in occurrence of their shoes and loyal customers who follow them.
Instagram- Instagram being solely form of media outlet for posting pictures and short videos, Nike uses this platform to release pictures of releases of clothing, shoes and even mini commercials that will interest those who follow. Nike being the most followed apparel brand on instagram with 7,932,338+ followers and the most used hashtags with 33,950,786 post using their hashtag #Nike (totems/list) . A user searching the #Nike in the hashtag section will arrive at millions of pictures that contain nike clothing, shoes, Womens , mens, anything that has Nike product in it. Providing Nike free, unpaid advertisements from everyone around the world. Nike also uploads pictures and testimonials for events and new products.
Pinterest- Pinterest being similar to instagram people are allowed to use this outlet to search things of interest as well as post pictures, difference being no video but also that on pinterest you are allowed to “pin” stuff which lets the user keep it on their “board” allowing them to go back to see the pics they like at any time. As well as people they follow can see these pins. This allows nike to post a pic and watch it spread from each user although a little slower than most social platforms , pinterest being one of the newest out of the bunch and less users. but it allows users searches to be more specific.
Youtube- Youtube being the second most used social media site in the world, with thousands of videos being uploaded daily, and videos going viral in mere seconds with millions of views in a matter of hours. Nike uses this to post their commercials and testimonials that can be viewed everywhere in the world daily.

A strength that Nike has on Facebook is the fact that the social teams are obviously lucky in that they have a huge number of athletes around whom they can create and share content, so the global football page displays a huge amount of content featuring the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Andres Iniesta, as well as a lot of product-related posts. creating a lot of people enthusiastic about about buy the new $700.00 soccer shoes. One of many opportunities that Nike offers is one for runners and they responds to a huge number of people to discuss their training schedule and give motivational advice. For example, if you’ve just bought a pair of Nike football boots and the brand then personally responds to you with training advice and a few words of encouragement, then you’re definitely going to consider that brand when you buy sports products in future and may even recommend them to your friends. The threats that i encountered is Nike is exposed to the international nature of trade. It buys and sells in different currencies and so costs and margins are not stable over long periods of time. Such an exposure could mean that Nike may be manufacturing and/or selling at a loss. This is an issue that faces all global brands. Nike being the empire that is know for has very few weaknesses but one is that it does have a diversified range of sports products. However, the income of the business is still heavily dependent upon its share of the footwear market. This may leave it vulnerable if for any reason its market share erodes. Maybe threats and weaknesses don't point as strong as the rest but nevertheless they still point to the recommendation of the brand through the social media sites.

PROGRESS REPORT #2

Member Roles:

Our members are still going to have the same roles as before. Jesus Ortuno will be in charge of researching the effects that social media bring onto the workplace as well as provide an example. Miguel Salvo will also do some research especially on the regulations that are put on employees by their workplace. Saidev Rao will focus on the design of the presentation and to make sure everything is in order. Thanh Tran will focus on the pros and cons in social media and the workplace. He will also make sure that the presentation has no technical or grammar errors. At the end we will all split up the work to make sure everyone did an equal share, and to make sure everybody knows what each slide is about.

Miguel Salvo has done extensive researching wrote a short preview of the info
Jesus Ortuno has provided COOL pictures for the project
Saidev Rao has picked the background and matching the pictures
Thanh Tran has picked the pros and cons for the presentation.

I will be presenting what the managers and "leaders" of the company do in order to stay on top of their employees. Ex. would be checking their Facebook page, twitter, previous jobs behavior. And the regulatios they can put if they find something. Like if they saw that you are doing marijuana, and you serve to people they will set rules like peeing in a cup every month and so on.

Blog Assignment 7: Privacy Scavenger Hunt

Techdirt- (Facebook's Ability To Influence The Election)-
Facebook had ran an experiment on news feeds to see if it could make people happy or sad. And i think that was a invasion of privacy because you are essentially playing with peoples emotion for your liking. Well they now made another experiment in which they are trying to find people that are voters or willing to vote, again an invasion of privacy angering more fellow Americans.

Epic-(Federal Appeals Court to Hear Challenge to NSA Surveillance Program)- the NSA (government agency) was listening to phone calls between the president and the house. In the Klayman case, Judge Richard Leon ruled that the NSA likely violated the Fourth Amendment. I believe that if you have something private it should remain that way, not have the US government listen to what you say especially the president of the US that took an oath of allegiance.

Epic-(EPIC Spotlight: Domestic Drones, Surveillance, and the Privacy Risks)

Federal Aviation Administration integrate drones into the National Airspace, raising concerns about both safety and privacy. Now drones have a law in congress protecting them to a level of security/surveillance.

                                                                     Privacy
Email- Is yahoo messenger really private?
Yes… and no. Yahoo Messenger is intended to let you to engage in private conversations. However, this doesn't 100% guarantee that your conversation will never be available to others.

  • A example of this is that the messages that you are sending can be copied and pasted there for it can reach anyone. So someone that is messaging his/her relative has no assurance that what he said can be altered and rephrased.
  • Yahoo also can remember your ID, so if you agree to those terms the site can automatically put your info in the site and log you in. So anyone can just search yahoo and your information might pop up, and he is just one click away from all your messages.
  • .In addition, it is possible, although rare, for someone to capture your Yahoo Messenger log in name and password information as they pass through your organisation's network or as they cross the Internet. And you always have the people that hack into peoples account so your security and privacy can be broken into.
Facebook- With millions of users, how safe can your information be?

Facebook is far from being private because the app is for sharing information that could be showed to the public. And the privacy is very limited because you are constantly updating something ,(weather it is pictures, status, comments, etc).

  • One example of this is the app they created. Essentially, by using these apps, just reading an article, listening to a song, or watching a video, you're sending information to Facebook which can then be automatically shared with your friends or added to your profile, and Facebook doesn't ask for your permission to do it. Winer's solution is to simply log out of Facebook when you're not using it, and avoid clicking Like buttons and tying other services on the web to your Facebook account if you can help it, and he urges Facebook to make its cookies expire, which they currently do not.
  • The setting that Facebook uses are only to block your profile from people that you don't have as a friend. But like everything there is things that can go around that, for example if you add them "Just because" then they have all the access that they need. Because they can see the pictures that you have taken as well as scroll all the way down and see what you posted a long time ago. and all the privacy goes out the window when y'all two are friends.
Snapchat app- share pictures with everyone, how private can that be ?
Snap Chat settled with the Federal Trade Commission earlier this month over a complaint that its privacy claims were misleading, as reported by USA Today, and last week, the Electronic Frontier Foundation published a report listing the company as the least privacy-friendly tech outfit it reviewed, including Comcast, Facebook, and Google. Last year, WhatsApp faced privacy complaints from the Canadian and Dutch governments, and like Snap chat, its security has been an issue as well.

  • The statement made here is that, censorship for this app can not be private because there is something out there that will break into it. There for the things you post can be copied or "screenshot-ed" and now the individual has power over the pic, something you cannot take back.
  • And with this app ""snap chat or what" the firewalls that prevent the hackers from getting your information are so weak that they can easily be encrypted and broken into.
Tweeter- Even the direct message is not as private as you think.
Every 140-character nugget of wisdom you tweet will be fed to anyone who follows your Twitter account, and is also publicly searchable by default. So, if you tweet "Getting sushi for lunch today, who's in?" your Twitter followers will instantly see the message in their Twitter feed, and anyone else that searches based on keywords like "sushi" or "lunch" might also uncover your tweet.

  • This is one the least private apps you can get because all you post is what you are doing or thinking. someone might not know where you live because you don't post pics, but they contently will know when ever you invite the whole world to go eat with you. And someone might not be looking for your specific tweet, but a random search will tell them and you can have someone that is uninvited to you're event.
  • Another negative factor to this is that this specific app lets everyone know (not just the people following you) what you posted if they really want to know they could find out.  and you cannot do anything about this because the whole point of this app is to have messages in the internet so everyone can see.
  • For example , a famous singer (byoncee) you can follow her and you will know everything she post but once she post something that she wants to get back it is impossible when you hit the point of no return.
My opinion on this that the best app would be tweeter because no one can see pic and know where you live. Al you do in the app is post things that you are thinking about. So safety is best option. And out of all this this one has the most security features on it. its been out later then facebook and has a better firewall.

Assigemnt Due on Oct, 14 (our roles)

Group Progress Report:

We will be researching mostly about how social media affects an individual in the workplace. We will provide different examples of how social media has gotten individuals in trouble with their boss. We will also look at the pros that social media can provide for an individual such as putting themselves out there so companies and businesses can notice them. As well as the cons to see how social media has many disadvantages and how you have to basically filter what you put on your social media.
In our group we will split up the research and the Prezi so that everyone will research and design a slide about what each group members found about the topic at hand.

The sources that we are looking at using is mostly on the internet and to use

Miguel salvo- The research that i'm conducting is how can social media affect your job/career.

Game work shop or better known as "gold farm" is a billion dollar business in the city of Nanjing, China where a young man by the name of  Li Qiwen works half of the day with out any breaks. the "players" only get 3 days out of the month for a break and and get paid ~1.25 USD dollars a day. As far as the video goes the work place looks like a cell, it does not have any windows to look outside and the food and shelter is provided by the company but the quality is very poor. In the video they compared to a dorm but many will see it a cell because at least on a dorm you have choices and they do not have any options. The players are also migrants so that has to do a lot with who are the people that they are hiring because a person with a bad criminal record cannot get hired maybe working at a fast food place but the owners of this will hire them.
The way it works is that the players provide a service to the company by playing the games and the more monsters they kill the more online money they get. With that money you can purchase power ups and special powers in the game but you have to play for a long time to get them. So what the "gold farmers" do is that they accumulate so much gold coins that the owners sell it to Americans that play World Of Warcraft for real US currency. And not only do they get the money for play the games but the USD is higher/weighs more then the Yuan that they have. So the owners are actually getting more while paying so little for the workers. The conditions that they live in are horrific they get a bed that looks like it came from a garbage truck.
